BACKGROUND

My name is Amanda Vera. I recently moved to Albuquerque, NM from Chicago, IL. I am a 28 year old with a passion for baking and decorating. What makes me qualified to serve you these delicious sweets and treats? A brief history of my work history starts at The College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn, IL. There i took classes to start on the road to a baking and pastry degree. After realizing college was not meant for me at that moment I started to self teach. Watching other people, The Food Network (oddly enough) and fishing for a job at a bakery. After landing a position as a waitress in a well known bakery in the middle of a popular part of town, I slowly worked my way up to working directly with the head cookie decorator and from there to being a cake decorator. From that job i moved onto another cake decorating job until I became a head decorator at that location. In every job I worked, I dabbled in baking as I have always had that love instilled in me from my mom. But I always worked the hardest to become head decorator. Pushing myself to do cakes I imagined were impossible. And I always found great pleasure in seeing an ear to ear grin from a customer seeing their cake for the first time. After 10 years I stepped away from the food industry for a while, aiming for another passion of veterinary medicine. I became a veterinary technician in a general practice in downtown Chicago and that was when I decided to try something new and I moved to Albuquerque. Here I landed a job as an emergency veterinary technician and continue to work there today. Talk about polar opposite jobs. As fulfilling and challenging being an emergency veterinary technician is I still continued to bake and never lose an ounce of passion and love I have for baking and decorating.

Moving from Chicago to Albuquerque was a big change. Instead of running back home I chose to make the best out of a different situation. After a friend who opened his own business here had mentioned how helpful Albuquerque is with programs centered around starting a small business, I found The South Valley Economical Development Center. I signed up and began my process of hustling to create my business which is now a legal LLC today. This was always a dream that was left floating but never pictured as a reality. Thanks to the SVEDC and friends and family motivating me, I have been mentored through the steps of creating my very own small business.

Not only is the SVEDC an amazing place with mentors ranging from lawyers to business consultants, but they have a beautiful and spacious commercialized kitchen. This is where all of Sweet Pandamonium Bakery's goods are baked out of.

As for my business itself, I bake sweets and treats to satisfy your soul. The kind of baked good that you grew up baking in your kitchen with a loved one. The kind of baked good that is both simple and mouth watering. Everyone of my treats have a slight twist to them that keeps you on your toes. Whether that be two desserts in one or a new flavor combination you may not have thought to try, it will leave you happy as you chew away.

The goal for my business is to slowly but surely add on my bread and butter (if you will). Cakes. After working for some of the top rated bakeries in Chicago as a cake decorator as well as the head cake decorator, I am well versed in the cake world. From a simple cake that reads "Happy Birthday" to a 3D fondant covered cake. Be sure to stay on the look out for updates.
